Visual patterns are another kind of language which express, embody and symbolize a history of forms and cultural values. Throughout the course of history, patterns are elaborated and defined so that while retaining certain commonalities they become distinct from one culture to another. The inner spread of ‘Conversations: Visions of Language and Culture’ is a cultural self-portrait in which the two cultures that have influenced me the most, Korean as represented on the left and English on the right, come together to resolve into my own unique identity expressed through a new visual language. This unique language is carried throughout the rest of the book to celebrate identities that grow out of the strength of multicultures.
